Prescribed burning is the most common form of fire hazard reduction. We have equipped ourselves with firefighting tools and equipment including torches, bladder bags, PPE’s, water trucks, etc. as well as equipment to help clear roads or construct fire lines when necessary.
Before the beginning of the dry season each year, our field staff plans prescribed burns in the most fire prone areas within our management area in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. All throughout the dry season, our staff is on standby regularly monitoring forest fires.
Furthermore, controlled pre-regeneration burns are done following the completion of harvesting to ensure successful pine regeneration. Controlled burns help in reducing understory fuel by removing logging residues, small shrubs, and grass, which then produces favorable conditions for seed germination and improved seedling survival.
