Sustainable Logging

We rely on natural regeneration and therefore operate using Reduced Impact Logging (RIL). This entails harvesting using the seed tree selection method, leaving sufficient seed trees that will promote healthy regeneration. Reduced impact logging maintains structure in the residual stand, protects tree regeneration from injury, minimizes soil damage, prevents unnecessary damage to high-value species, and protects critical ecosystem functions such as water catchment and carbon sequestration.
RIL methods are utilized during the felling, skidding, and hauling at restricted intensities to preserve the appearance of the natural forest. We selectively log the forest with harvest intensities of approximately 2 trees per hectare.
